Lots to say and no time to post!

Alexiss has been keeping me busier than usual, she's happier when I play play play all day day day. I keep wondering if she'll get to read all this one day and if she'll take it over and keep it going.

So much to say! I'll let the pictures tell...

Yep! Rice cereal went very well, Alexiss even helped! She's been watching us and learning exactly what to do. She also tried carrots this week, I say tried, I'm not so sure she liked them. I tried straight plain mashed carrots and after the few bites she took she looked at me each and every time as if saying "Are you serious! What is this strong overpowering stuff!" So, I mixed it with rice cereal to mellow the taste a bit for her. Tomorrow is sweet potato then I'll treat her to a fruit.

Oh yes! We have a new hat and fingerless mitts knitted by The Momma! It's one of the things I can do while sitting on the floor with her holding her steady. Now Momma's just aren't for pillows anymore! They're prop tools too!

I'm bored of her toys and she's starting to bang and rattle her toys instead of everything being a chew toy.....soooo, I took a trip into Toys R Us today and bought some fun smash em, roll em, bang em toys... a foam mat to sit on instead of just the rug and some sippy cups to try out, and two sleepers.....and two outfits....and a diaper pail. Are you rolling your eyes yet? Too much stuff, but stuff we needed. The lady rang everything up and as I opened my purse to get my wallet I realized, with dread, that it was at home on the island. Back home we come and I'm upset to say we are toyless! I made the trip into town again after Mark got home from work, Toys R Us were nice enough to hold everything for me so I didn't have to pick everything out again AND I got to get some groceries too.

Our flight home is booked! We're flying into London on June 12th and visiting Mark's family and friends before heading into Niagara for a bit, then Mark flies back home alone and Alexiss and I will stick around a bit longer...just incase Gramma isn't tired of us. Oma, Opa, Gramma and Pops, we'll be giving you a hollar soon to let you know more.

Just like dear old Dad!

What a Tuesday we had! First it was Wheatland County knocking on the door to let us know that neighbors pipes are freezing and they are doing what they can. This is the second time this has happened so we know the drill. They took a meter reading and will not charge us for water. If we leave our taps running we should be okay..well...except for my head from the constant sound of the tub being run. When we're a bit more out of the woods I'll start running a tap instead, much quieter that way. Our neighbors are hooked up to our water through our outside tap and a hose.

Through all the knocking, the running around and calling another neighbor at work, Alexiss managed to fumble through second lunch and gulp down a minimal meal.

Then off to the doctors, nothing major, but I've noticed Alexiss's ear has been irritating her a bit and I wanted to make sure to catch it before it turned into something worse than an irritation. Turns out she's got hairy ears and there's a build-up of wax. Nothing major. The doctor suggested putting a few drops of Canola oil in her ear and massaging it to loosen things up a bit. She's not minding it but Mark is, he's not on board with the whole suggestion. She's a whooping 8.04 kg, that's 17.7 lbs!

Alexiss has started to turn onto her back from her tummy, it's only been a few times and the first was a big "whoops...OH!" kind of learning experience for her.

Blanket Math!

Yep, there's algebra, trigonomity, even calculus is easy to master with the right teacher, but who teaches blanket math? Never heard of it? Well, it's the math it takes to mix the right combination of blankets to get a good night's sleep of course!

See, here's some examples:

1 light swaddle blanket + 1 medium wrap = 2 cold to sleep = 2 tired the next day
1 heavy swaddle blanket + 1 heavier fuzzy wrap + 1 light blanket to tuck in = 3 Ryderson's sleeping well through the night

I'm starting to think that baby clothes and blankets should have a warmth rating, and when you find your baby's number, it becomes easier to mix and match and substitute one for the other instead of having to experiment while laundry is being done and the magic combination isn't available!

Mark was sick with a cold all weekend, which meant overtime mommyhoodism for me. Boy am I worn out. Combine that with Alexiss not sleeping well this week and my sleep deprivation rears it's ugly head again. I did get a nap in yesterday as Mark was feeling a bit better to spell me off for a bit, and last night was a good night's sleep for Alexiss and I, meaning both of us a little less cranky today.

I continue to learn and understand myself and the world better with Alexiss here teaching me to change my quiet content existence in life. Last week, when Mark was sick I understood why women learn to expect certain behaviors from men/husbands/partners. Mark and I have always lived without expecting of each other and I've watched expectations ruin some otherwise good relationships as the woman expects the man to call, expects him to do something that seems normal in society to want. I never understood until Mark got sick and didn't tell/warn me ahead. So I went about my normal day knowing I could catch up with dishes..etc, when he got home. NOT! Instead I was scrambling to get things done and deal with Alexiss while he laid zoned out and sick on the couch. Then I realized that little girls grow up seeing this behaviour with the moms and dads, and carry it into relationships. When honestly, does it really matter if they call you that day? My mom was not like that with my dad, or not that I saw anyway, so I didn't pick up this kind of behavior. Mark and I always seemed to enjoy this type of relationship, it became one about respecting an individual and sharing the time we spent together while allowing the freedom to not have to be accountable for our individualism. It created a great atmosphere of friendship! A great thing in a relationship and non-smothering for either of us. Now there's a need though, and now we've agreed as a team to keep each other in the loop a bit more. I'm thankful that I now understand the concept instead of just behaviorally falling into patterns.

The hat and fingerless mitts I made for Alexiss are all knitted, just gotta find the time and umph to seam up the hat and weave in loose ends. I can't wait to show her off in them! It's even got me thinking of bettering the fingerless mitts and creating a pattern that's easier to put on babies and also for fingerless mitts that adjust/grow with them. The online site, Ravelry, is a spot for knitters to share patterns and track projects or patterns. I have one silly fingerless mitt pattern I made and shared for free. Some of the patterns have to be bought, if I ever got good enough, I may even be able to make a bit of money. Somehow I think with my demeanor I'll always offer my patterns for free though. heh.

Baby it's cold outside!

Not fit for man, beast nor babeh!

Yesterday Calgary was a low of -30, today we're sitting at around -17. It's not so bad, except for when en you want to go to the store and have to warm up a truck, move a truck away from the snowbank to put Alexiss in.... and that's not even suiting her up yet!

Yep, we've got cabin fever, even poor Rex isn't getting fresh air these past two weeks, his poor paws get cold and somehow I think not being able to teach an old dog new tricks includes booties.

We had blustery weather again on Monday and I dare not even take the trip into Carseland to pick up the mail, let alone go into Strathmore for diapers. We had juuuust enough to get through the day, which was great, I really didn't want to try to come up with alternatives. Mark lucked out at the gas station with a small package to get us through until Tuesday when I did make the trip into Strathmore. Alexiss is traveling much better, I give the girl credit, it's a 20 min drive one way, add on time to grocery shop and pick up the things we need and it usually means a few things are left undone for our next trip into town.

Her poor head, the largest hat we have for her is getting too small, so that leaves me no choice but to knit! Well, there are other choices... but, I think a little knitted hat from me will be super cute, specially with fingerless mitts to match! I'm hoping I can find more of the same yarn to make a poncho for her, there's no patterns out there that I love, but I think I can combine them to knit something she won't mind wearing. I promise to share pictures when they are done.

We are getting used to our new envelope budgeting system but sometimes when you don't use the envelopes, it's a big of money juggling. Always good for a tongue-out duty, or some fun with Mark!

Gotta run!
